We started with classic Italian imagery—marble sculpture and cityscape etchings—and defaced them with a graffiti-like Japanese stereotypes. Leaning heavily on representation of samurai, ninjas, geisha, and the iconic Japanese sun, the goal was to create something that was outlandish, whimsical, and extrovertedly stereotypical. We wanted customers to immediately understand this brash compound of food cultures, in a way that is as fun as the food.
